Kanye West

Last night, Kanye West released the song “New Slaves” by projecting the music video onto the side of 66 buildings across the world. One of the projection locations, on the side of the Museum of Design & Arts near Columbus Circle in New York, was close enough for us to go check out, so we drank a bunch of caffeine, put on our coolest shoes, and headed down to the museum.

Muse released this interesting video for "Panic Station" earlier today, and as they announced the video, also announced that they were going to do a Twitter Q&A so their fans and the general public can ask questions. The result was hilarious (helped by the fact that the video is ridiculous), and made us think that more artists should do this when a video comes out - am I right? It takes minimal time and organization, and we actually got some basics questions about the video answered by the guys from Muse themselves, all in 140 characters or less. Below are our favorite exchanges.

Last month, we interviewed Danielle Robarge, director/producer of Sprockets Music Video Festival, which will be held on June 15 in Athens, GA. The early entry date for music video submissions has already passed, but you’ve still got a few more hours before the late entry deadline to digitally submit your music videos to be considered for the festival.

One of our favorite things to do at IMVDb is to find film festivals that feature music videos of any kind (highlighted by our continuing coverage of this year’s SXSW). But, what we really love is when we can find an event completely dedicated to music videos – and going on its 8th year, it appears that the Sprockets Music Video Festival in Athens, Georgia is the longest-running. Entry to this year’s festival is currently open, and we talked to Danielle Robarge, director/producer of Sprockets Music Video Competition, to find out a bit more about the event.

Peter Kafka at AllThingsD.com is reporting that YouTube and Vimeo are close to a deal that would have YouTube buying a minority stake in VEVO. Remember in early December when YouTube and VEVO's content deal was set to expire and we needed a solution within 120 days? Well, here it is. The deal is not done yet and could very well fizzle out, but they are reportedly close.

It's our position here at IMVDb that YouTube and VEVO are just too good of a partnership for either party to let it slip away, so this is welcome news. When they work together, VEVO gets a massively popular distribution network for content, and YouTube gets incredibly popular content.

One key point in this deal is that long-term licenses will be in place so we don't have a recurring music video cliff associated with license deals. If YouTube does invest in VEVO, hopefully we'll have VEVO music videos on YouTube for a long time to come, without having to wonder if they'll be yanked off the site anytime soon.
