After releasing a fairly simple video for “Midnight” earlier this year, Coldplay is back with a much larger production for their “Magic” music video. The video begins with the words “a Jonas Åkerlund film,” and that’s no exaggeration as everything about this video feels like a film, more specifically a silent film from the 1920s. Starring Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s Ziyi Zhang and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, “Magic” focuses on a love triangle between a beautiful magician (Zhang), her handsome assistant (Martin), and her drunk mustachioed husband (Martin again). For a band like Coldplay who doesn’t need to do much more than walk through the woods to generate over 12 million views on their music video, it’s really refreshing to see them go with something big with their latest effort.

“Magic” was produced by Black Dog Films and can be found on the album Ghost Stories.
