Eli Stonberg's Top 10 Music Videos of 2014

Posted by Eli Stonberg on December 22, 2014 in Lists

Editor's Note: For our end of the year wrap up, we asked a few filmmakers to compile their own top music video lists. This list was compiled by director Eli Stonberg of fourclops.

In the music video world of 2014 there was Hiro Murai, and then there was everyone else. Dude put out seven amazing music videos this year and any of them could’ve made it onto this list. I loved his videos for FlyLo, Shabazz Palaces, and Childish Gambino, but my favorite was Spoon’s “Do You.” 2014 was also a year of great dance videos, with Sia’s “Chandelier” leading the way. A huge moment for me is the epic return of Encyclopedia Pictura. Due to personal bias, I have to give love to some of the year’s best interactive music experiences. George and Jonathan III is one of the coolest music visualizations I’ve ever seen, putting the iTunes Visualizer to shame. Another interactive, Ty Segall’s “Manipulator,” is pure ADD madness from Matt Yoka and Simon Wiscombe. However, no single music video moment was bigger than Dan Kwan’s magic penis. One day statues will be built… but until then, enjoy this list.

10. "Loud Like Love" by Placebo

9. "Home" by Holly Herndon

8. "Chandelier" by Sia

7. "Clockwork" by Illangelo feat. Phlo Finister

6. "Bugatti" by Tiga

5. "III" by George & Jonathan
