Lana Del Rey is back and making a video for "National Anthem", which has one hell of a premise: rapper A$AP Rocky as JFK and Lana portraying Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.
Lana loves her preview clips, so today we get one featuring Lana and A&AP in their roles staring at each other from the stage and the audience, respectively. Interspersed are various Zapruder film-like clips of other parts of the video (including a quick shot of an American flag on a car, which means we'll defintely be seeing some JFK assasination scenes as promised by Lana's Facebook picture posted Sunday). Here is the preview clip, which features the entire song over the looped preview.
If there's any question of whether or not Lana is playing Marilyn Monroe in this scene, take a look at the image that was posted on her Facebook page and note her position next to the podium of crazy microphones:
Now watch this clip of the actual Marilyn Monroe "Happy Birthday" performance from 1962:
See any similarities? It's pretty obvious, down to the dress, that Lana is Marilyn Monroe in the preview clip. We also know that she will be playing Jackie O in some sort of assisination recreation, so our guess is we'll be getting a lot of the role of the mistress vs. the role of the wife exploration in this video, which might explain why A$AP has been telling people none of us will get this until 2015: "I play JFK, she plays Jackie O. Some cool, trippy s-[deleted], some really 2015 s-[deleted] People gonna get it in like three years, and that's the whole purpose of it."
So see you all in 2015! Until then, we can all debate - A$AP, Greg Kinnear, or this creepy old man?
The video will be directed by Anthony Mandler.
