Biography


André Lauren Benjamin (born May 27, 1975),  better known by his stage name André 3000 (and sometimes simply Dre), is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor, best known for his work in the group Outkast.  André formed Outkast with his classmate Antwan (Big Boi) Patton of Tri-Cities High School in the ATL’s East Point area.  Since rising to popularity as a preminent rap artist and musician, André has announced intentions to slow down touring work with Outkast partner Big Boi. He has collaborated with Gwen Stefani, and has also used the alternate moniker Johnny Vulture.  Lately, in addition to producing music, André has begun an acting career, his recent appearances include parts in The Shield, Be Cool, Revolver (2005), Scary Movie 4, Four Brothers, Idlewild, Semi-Pro, and a voiceover in a new animated version of Charlotte’s Web as well as voicing characters in his own animated series, Class of 3000. He had a longstanding relationship with musician Erykah Badu with whom he fathered a son, Seven.
