After releasing a series of videos with a darker, black and white style to them, The 1975 released the Adam Powell directed "Sex" in July, a more narrative video that is also in color. Despite not really resembling a typical pop video very much, this stylistic change sparked a bit of controversy. As front man Matt Healy described, "It was brought to our attention that certain people thought we were 'conforming to a record company's wishes' along with other expected and unexpected clichés." Teaming back up with Adam Powell, the band addresses this idea of conformity in their new video, "Girls," by essentially making a music video about a band who doesn’t want to make a music video.

It opens with Matt yelling at someone off camera, telling them that the video doesn’t feel right, and that it needs to be black and white. The music then begins and suddenly everything is in color. There are models and flowers everywhere, and the band begins to perform very unenthusiastically. We then cut between shots of the models sitting poolside, playing the band’s instruments, and being playfully objectified – and Matt can be seen throughout complaining about each step of the process.

"Girls" was produced by Ross Levine for Black Dog Films and can be found on The 1975's self titled album.
