Cool New Music Video: "Get Stupid" by Aston Merrygold

Former JLS member Aston Merrygold has been on the fast track back into the limelight, following in the footsteps of Justin Timberlake, releasing the video for single "Get Stupid" off his first album since breaking off from the X-Factor famed UK boy band. This video is a bag of pure nostalgic fun that packs in a lot of really great dancing and performances with a really fun song.

The setting of the video takes place entirely in a vacated mall, and they really make the most out of it - the crew shoots everywhere, from brightly lit clothing stores to dark hallways (complete with dancing janitor) and all over the moving escalators. Choreographer Aakomon Jones really knocked it out of the park! People are dancing crazy everywhere; the screen is almost always filled with dancers performing explosive moves that sometimes relate to the song's lyrics directly. Jones has been working as a choreographer for a long time, though most of his work is theater range feature films, from Collateral to Pitch Perfect 2. He really knows his stuff!

I love how the 80's influences are so clear, bringing in some of Michael Jackson's choreography, and pulling from some seriously classic 80s movie plot points. Director James Lees is great at creating a vibe, getting a little more quirky in some of his other projects, like Two Door Cinema Club's "Undercover Martyn," and using some fabulous cut-to-the-beat editing in the incredibly catchy OneRepublic video "Counting Stars." He's a very versatile director, and seems to be able to make something unique and entertaining, no matter the song genre.

Caleb Jackson is a Tucson native, Los Angeles based writer and director who spends his time pretending he lives in any decade besides this one. He tends to enjoy music videos with a little bit of narrative and a lot of bright colorful lights.

Cool New Music Video: "Sorrow" by Huntress

The new video for California based metal act Huntress is a straight-up gorefest, playing to the tune of early Italian Giallo horror films penned most famously by Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci, with some influence from erotic vampire films such as Vampyros Lesbos. It’s a boatload of bloody fun, but… Read More
