New Release: Wolf Gang "Black River" Directed by James Lees

One crucial thing for a band to have is a unique and/or cool rehearsal space. Usually this takes the form of a warehouse or sometimes just a space in a house, but in their new video for "Black River," the band Wolf Gang has everyone else beat by parking themselves on the banks of a backwoods river.

The James Lees-directed clip starts out pretty innocently, with the band performing by the river at a spot that comes complete with a dilapidated river shanty. A little girl is exploring the river, alone in a boat, and spots a baby alligator. Things turn dark as night falls, however, and interspersed with some pretty spectacular shots of the band performances, we get shots of what look like baptisms in the dark river. Things get even weirder when an old man shows up looking for the girl and finds [spoiler alert] an empty boat.

James Lees has a talent for combining elements that don't seem like they'd work together into a great video (see his video for "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic), and that's on full display here - the video takes a number of left turns, but ends up working as a single piece. And if you think rivers at night are extra creepy like I do, this video probably genuinely freaked you out.

The video for "Black River" by Wolf Gang was produced by Kimberly Stuckwisch for Doomsday Entertainment. The track can be found on Wolf Gang's Black River EP.
