As the number of pure performance videos continues to fall, it’s always a treat when a really great one, like "Modern Jesus" by Portugal. The Man, comes across our radar. Directed by Elliott Sellers, the video was shot on October 28, 2013, using the live audio track from the performance, in what appears to be a library in Los Angeles. Some meticulous planning definitely went into this video, which includes several takes, lots of camera movement, whip pans, and a fair amount of on screen presence from the members of the band. While most performance music videos tend to rely heavily on the ability of the band to carry the video, this video definitely has Elliott’s mark on it, as he also served at DP and editor on this project. This is the second video for "Modern Jesus," the first of which was directed by AG Rojas and shot by longtime Portugal. The Man collaborator Michael Ragen (for more info on that video, check out our interview with front man John Gourley).

"Modern Jesus" was produced by Kimberly Stuckwisch for Doomsday Entertainment was can be found on Portugal. The Man’s fantastic album Evil Friends.
