The Lonely Island Return To SNL With "Hugs"

Last night's Saturday Night Live finale was hosted by Andy Samberg, and even though he made it clear up front that Justin Timberlake was in Russia and would not be appearing for another "Dick in a Box" style Digital Short, the Lonely Island guys still had plenty of good material on their The Wack Album, including a track with none other than Pharrell, who has won multiple Grammys and been a part of several chart topping hits since The Wack Album was released last June.

They put that material to use in a brand new music video for "Hugs," a song about the fact that Pharrell and the Lonely Island guys are freaks when it comes to hugs. A bonus was Maya Rudolph as 80s Oprah, selling drugs on the side of the street. As the song dictates, those drugs were "pure x."

While they were employed by SNL, The Lonely Island took full advantage of the resources there - including the show's team of talented prop makers and costume designers. They seem to have taken advantage of that again this week, filling the video with the sort of one-off visuals that made all the Lonely Island videos stand so far above other comedy music videos. More than anything, this made us miss weekly musical Digital Shorts.

As a bonus, we got another Digital Short last night that confirms what we've all suspected about EDM DJs:
