FilmedInsert is Now IMVDb

We've been putting a lot of time and energy in our music video database project lately, but something was bothering us: our name.

See, FilmedInsert was never supposed to be the name of a music video database. The original FilmedInsert.com was a blog where I had aspirations of writing about music videos. A "filmed insert" is an old name for music videos, so it fit. When the site turned into a database project, I already had the URL, so I decided to use it.

As we've grown, however, the name hasn't grown with us. We always have to explain what the concept of the site is. Doug Lussenhop, before our interview with him last year, said that nobody knows what a FilmedInsert is. Many people have shared the same sentiment. At some point, the name lost its meaning and got in the way. What people really were interested in was the concept: a database of music videos and credits.

Unfortunately we were out of luck for a while. It's 2012 and a lot of great, short domains are already taken, including any variation of what we wanted. Then, by a late night coincidence, we came into possession of our first choice: imvdb.com.

So, today we start a new life as IMVDb, the Internet Music Video Database. IMVDb is short, easy to remember, and has a ring that fits our aspirations: to be the canonical place for music videos on the web.

One unfortunate part of switching names is that we have to give up our Facebook page (since it's over 200 likes, we cannot rename it). Please join us over at the new, official IMVDb Facebook page. If you followed us on Twitter at @filmedinsert, you are automatically following @theimvdb. We're using that handle until we can gain control of @imvdb, which is a vacant account.

We're extremely excited about our move, excited about what we have in store for IMVDb very soon, and even more excited to see new music videos every day. The world of music videos is getting bigger by the day, and we're ready to come along for the ride.
