Did you guys know that butts rule the internet? It’s true. Exhibit A of this claim is Nicki Minaj’s newest music video for “Anaconda,” directed by Colin Tilley. Released just two days ago, the video has already racked up over 37 million views, and it now holds the record for most views for a Vevo video in the first 24-hours, gaining 19.6 million in its first day (inching out “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus by only 300k). And while Nicki is no stranger to massively popular music videos, the popularity of “Anaconda” is unprecedented – and as far as we can tell this has a whole lot to do with butts.

Of course, you can’t just throw a butt in a music video and expect it to get 20 million views in a day, even if that butt belongs to Nicki Minaj. If people want to see Nicki’s butt so bad, they could just go look at the artwork for the “Anaconda” single. What seems to make “Anaconda” so successful is the willingness to do so many different things with butts. Some of the choreography that Nicki and the four dancers pull off in this video is pretty remarkable, and for a star a big as Nicki Minaj to still be willing to take her performance to the level that she does definitely deserves some propers.

One of our favorite things about this video is how they fit Drake into the concept. While typically rappers will want to show off and look cool when appearing in a music video, Drake literally just sits in a chair while getting a lap dance from Nicki (while wearing basketball shorts, which is a really classic move). He literally just sits and stares at Nicki as she dances for him, just as mesmerized by her butt as the rest of us.

”Anaconda” was produced by Jamee Ranta for London Alley Entertainment and can be downloaded as a single now.
