FRINGE MUSIC FIX's Weekly Top 5 (12/8)
Posted by Adam Alexander on December 8, 2013 in ListsContributor Post |
FRINGE MUSIC FIXs selections for this weeks most exceptional music videos include flower headed women, hairless cats, mask wearing eccentric old men, gymnasts, dirt bike duels, multi-coloured computer rendered matter, and super intense intoxicated rave dancing. Read on to discover which of this weeks new music videos were the most remarkable.
k.flays video for Rawks is indeed a peculiar one. The Ben Fee-directed clip features a series of surreal images likes a flower headed woman petting a hairless cat, biker-like men consuming entire hot dogs in as few bites as possible, and among many strange but intriguing visuals, a man having lunch meat thrown at his face in slow motion. Rawks is certainly one of this weeks most unique videos by an artist new to my radar whos left me excited to hear more.
Mogwais video for The Lord is Out of Control contains a mysterious narrative having something to do with gymnasts, peculiar older men with strange masks and a girl wearing silver who may very well be headed for the edge of the world. While I was unable to make much sense of the clip, it certainly inspired and provoked me enough to include it amongst this weeks most interesting and visually appealing releases.
Lordes video for Team is a dark and moody conceptual music video directed by Young Replicant and adapted from one of Lordes actual dreams. Young Replicant has previously worked with Purity Ring, the xx, and Bonobo. The video sees a young man brought to a secret place where a duel of sorts involving dirt bikes ensues. Its a rather brutal ordeal, and like most dreams, ends abruptly and without much closure. A superb video for an outstanding track.
Little Daylights music video for Overdose is a fresh and vibrant accompaniment directed by Special Problems and Campbell Hooper, whos frequently collaborated with electro-pop act The Naked and Famous. The video is a unique mixture of monochrome shots of interesting looking people dancing and interacting with hyper-coloured computer rendered masses.
The Tom Haines-directed music video for Jon Hopkins Collider is an intense and powerful one. The bold and violent clip features talented actress Amanda Wass undergoing a heavy night of partying, or perhaps experiencing a drug induced state of mind. Alternating flashes between night and day imply that both scenarios are plausible, and while its definitely the daytime scenario thats the likelier reality, its fun to entertain both premises. Collider is certainly one of this weeks most thrilling videos, and by far my favourite.
Honourable Mentions
Broken Bells - Holding On For Life
Clams Casino and Vic Mensa - Egyptian Cotton
Lorine Chia - Eves Perspective
