FRINGE MUSIC FIX's Weekly Top 5 (7/13)
Posted by Adam Alexander on July 13, 2014 in ListsContributor Post |
Each week, FRINGE MUSIC FIX culls the latest music video releases, carefully selecting the most bizarre, provocative, and remarkable videos from across the world.
Sit back, relax, and open your minds eye; things are about to get interesting. The following are our selections for the week ending July 13th 2014.
For the fourth and final music video released to promote Woodkid's "The Golden Age", Yoann Lemoine has crafted a moving "postcard of his childhood". As Lemoin stated in an interview, the video combines "the memories and emotions from the countryside assembled in a long, free, mellow piece.". The black and white visual is a carefully executed and cinematic short film that finds itself rooted in realism, as opposed to the fantasy influenced videos for "Iron", "Run Boy Run" and "I Love You".
Mika and director Johnathan Lia guide us through their tribute to classic action and adventure films spanning the decades. The stylish and fashionable video sees the Lebanese pop artist assuming a handful of roles ranging from a cowboy to a secret agent, all while trying to defeat a protagonist to win the hand of a beautiful female lead.
Director Ninian Doff proves that great narrative "gimmicks" exist with his amusing video for Royal Blood's "Figure It Out". Like the title suggests, the viewer is challenged to deduce the role of the video's characters before their true natures are revealed. The video's two tone colour pallet is both the method in which secrets are revealed and also gives the video a stylish and memorable appeal. As the screen alternates between red and blue, certain things are made visible, such as a blood soaked shirt completely concealed when the video was red.
"Time" marks the fourth dance based Oliver Hadlee Pearch directed video set to promote Jungle's self titled EP and their much anticipated full length, which is slated for released later this month. Much like their previous music video outings, "Time" begins by unveiling it's central characters and performers. In this particular instance, we are introduced to two middle aged men. After each gentleman takes a few moments to show off his moves, the duo meet in a gymnasium for a dance-off and to finally determine which dancer will reign supreme.
BRTHR have employed their trademark retro styled direction to create the delicate and lush music video for rising contemporary soul artist, Jessie Ware. The video's beautiful spring colour palettes and tilting lens gives the video a dreamlike and timeless quality.
