What's really good all my IMVDB heads
It's been a minute hasn't it! Before I get into it, feel free to email me at theblack@imvdb.com. Hit me with questions, comment, general hate, etc. Might even give you a shout out, ya heard?!
Let's get it in!
So this week, the video I <3, is from a little indie band from London called The XX.
The video is for the track, "Islands" and it's directed by Saam Faramand.
What I love about this video is how subtle everything is played. From the band's apathy and disinterest, to the narrative that's revealed to us through the choreography of the dancers. The subtly is great but what really makes this video interesting is the fact that Saam chose to use dancers repeating the same choreography to tell this narrative or to convey the emotion of the track.
At 1:26 in the video, we start to see the subtle nuances of the video taking shape. As the camera pulls back revealing the dancers in the background and the band and ending on the set of dancers in the foreground, we go from this:
to this:
The body language says everything, witnessed in the following scenes:
Damn, gurl. Why you gotta do Pee-Wee Herman like that?!?!
It was all good just a week ago.
I won't spoil the rest of the video for you, but just know that this is one of my favorite videos. I remember when it dropped and flipped because The XX was poppin and to see an ill video for an equally ill track... it's rare these days. But when it happens, you can count on your boy to show it some love.
Black, out.
