Want to Put a Video on FilmedInsert? Add It!

Staff Post

Up until very recently, FilmedInsert has been a read-only site, meaning we put up the videos, and visitors come and view them. Today we're very happy to announce that the beta version of our video adder is now live! Just sign up and log in (with Facebook or by creating an email/password combo), and you can easily add a video to the database.

How Does it Work?

One of the reasons this adder has been so long in the making is that we wanted to get it right. We've gone through many iterations - we wanted it to be simple to just add a video quickly, but also something that's simple to enter your 35 person crew into.

Once you are logged in, click "Add a Video" in the top right hand corner and you'll be taken to the form. It looks like this:

The only fields that are actually required are the artist and song name. Aside from that basic info, you can add a link to the video online, a release status, a premiere date, a version name, crew, cast, budget information, technical information, and the country of production. (We'll be adding more fields soon).

Fill out the informatio you have, and click "Submit". The form will ask you a few questions about your information if it needs to, but otherwise, you'll get an email saying your submission is being moderated. The content moderators at FilmedInsert get an email when a new video is added, and we check it before putting it up on the site. Once your submission is approved, you'll get an email with a link to when you can find it on the site and the process is complete!

Adding In-Production Videos

You don't need to wait until a video is released to get it in the database. Simply choose "In Production" as the release status when adding the video, and the video will be treated as in-production in the database. You can even specify an intended release date.

Finding the Right People

One issue we dealt with when making this form was the fact that it was going to be important to be able to find the right entities through our auto-complete. Finding Rihanna isn't going to be that hard. It's seeing the Joe Smith that provide a challenge.

We've tackled that problem in two ways. First of all, when you search, the live-complete will not only tell you what kind of entry each one is "Director, Editor, etc.", it will show you a short position history. So, if you know your gaffer worked on a friend's video, you may see that information in the position history, which helps in selecting an entry.

Similarly, if you just enter a name, we'll do a quick check in the database to see if we find any entries that you may have missed. If you see the correct entry in the matches, you can correct it right there.
