Introducing IMVDb Charts

Today we're excited to introduce a new feature that we've had in the works for a while - IMVDb Charts!

Billboard is taking online views into account for their charts, and iTunes publishes their top-selling music videos, but we felt like there wasn't a place for top charts dedicated to just music videos (and all music videos).

Here's how it works. For each video, we track multiple embeds for any given video. For instance, a video may have an official YouTube source, and an official Vimeo source. Then, the director or production company may put that video up under their own account. Sometimes, the artist and the record label will each put the video up. The point is, there are many combinations, and all those views are valid, so we track them all!

We take all of the views from each of those sources to come up with our own, unique view count. Our charts are based on those numbers.

We have several charts in beta, but we are starting by publishing two basic charts: Top New Videos and Top All Time Videos. Top All Time is pretty self-explanatory, but we are really excited about Top New Videos, which shows the most popular videos released in the last five days. That chart is refreshed hourly, and in the case of videos hanging at YouTube 301 view count cache, we order by the number of shares, which can be substituted as a reliable alternative.

Want to help make our charts more accurate? If you see a video that isn't in our database, make sure to submit it. If you have a video coming out, make sure we know about it by submitting it and emailing our content director, Doug, at doug@imvdb.com.

Look out for more charts released in the coming days!
