Welcome to Music Video Relapse, a series where we revisit a classic music video at lunchtime every day. You're welcome.

After Earth, a science fiction film starring Will Smith and his son, 14 year-old Jaden Smith, came out last Friday. People were not impressed (The Onion said it best).

How soon we forget, however, that before Will Smith was putting his children in films, he was putting them in music videos. So today please enjoy the 1998 classic "Just the Two of Us" by Will Smith, starring his son, Trey.

Directed by music video legend Bob Giraldi ("Beat It", "Say Say Say"), the video starts off with Smith and his son wandering around a studio lot, and then segues into four minutes and 30 seconds of patented, unmitigated Will Smith earnestness. We also get shots of other father and son duos, including Magic Johnson and Muhammad Ali. (By the way, if you're interested in music videos with basketball players in them, we have a playlist for you).

This music video is full of foreshadowing - in addition to the Will-Smith-hand-son-on-the-movie-lot image, the video also includes a shot of Jada Pinkett Smith pregnant with Jaden Smith, who you can now see at your local box office. We've come full circle.

Where is Will Smith's son Trey, the one who starred in the video? Let me introduce DJ AcE.

As we've covered on the blog before, ABBA has an interesting history with music videos, using the form back in the late 1970s to spread their music to overseas markets. The videos, while pretty primitive, are well-done for their time, and they are almost all on their ABBA Vevo account,… Read More

When a video gets pulled off of YouTube, they usually tell you who made them do it. Usually it's a record label, but sometimes it's a random name. For instance, Iggy Azalea used to have a video called "Pu$$y," but it now says "This video is no longer available because… Read More

People whose jobs revolve around throwaway "viral" stories hit pay dirt last week when someone noticed that a radio station in LA was playing Nelly's 2002 hit "Hot In Herre" over and over again. This is apparently relatively standard procedure for radio stations undergoing a format change (it has since… Read More
