Music Video Relapse: "My Girlfriend" (2009) by Uncle Kracker
Posted by Adam Fairholm on November 21, 2013 in Music Video RelapseStaff Post |
This morning I thought to myself "I bet if I searched on IMVDb for Uncle Kracker videos I'd find some pretty weird stuff." And, here we are.
Today on music video relapse we're watching the video for a song called "My Girlfriend" from 2009, directed by Ross Ching.
The song "My Girlfriend" is told from the point of view of a guy writing to his parents to tell them that his girlfriend is now a lesbian. Normal stuff you share with your parents. It's a lighthearted song, and according to Ross Ching, the label wanted something that would do well on the internet for the video.
In the video itself, Uncle Kracker is not the guy with the girlfriend. The guy with the girlfriend is normal looking dude who sits down to log onto muffmayhem.com (which doesn't appear to be a real site, or at least it didn't load for me) at the beginning of the video. Uncle Kracker spends the video mostly seated in the only the finest folding chair available. In my mind it is a custom Uncle Kracker folding chair.
Anyways, the dude is going to watch some lesbian porn (he's prepped by buying three family sized bottles of hand lotion, which means he possibly has never masturbated before). He puts the picture of him and his girlfriend down and then right as he is about to go to town and use approximately a gallon of hand lotion, we go back in time to see how we got to this point.
Turns out the story is pretty simple - the dude's girlfriend got picked up by a totally legit looking white van with a camera poking out of it and then goes to a hotel to film some lesbian softcore porn.
Once we have set up the origin of the porn (it's his girlfriend) and the hand cream (bought at a store), the guy realizes what he is watching is his girlfriend on muffmayhem.com. He does a double take and laments his fate.
If you ask me, the dude in this video got off pretty easy, as his girlfriend never removes any articles of clothing and it could have been a lot worse. If you girlfriend is going to get in strange vans and kiss a girl on camera at the drop of a hat, it's probably lucky for everyone that they just wanted her to pillow fight in her clothes. Next time, maybe she'll be making out with Uncle Kracker.

As we've covered on the blog before, ABBA has an interesting history with music videos, using the form back in the late 1970s to spread their music to overseas markets. The videos, while pretty primitive, are well-done for their time, and they are almost all on their ABBA Vevo account,… Read More

When a video gets pulled off of YouTube, they usually tell you who made them do it. Usually it's a record label, but sometimes it's a random name. For instance, Iggy Azalea used to have a video called "Pu$$y," but it now says "This video is no longer available because… Read More
Music Video Relapse: "Hot In Herre" (2002) by Nelly

People whose jobs revolve around throwaway "viral" stories hit pay dirt last week when someone noticed that a radio station in LA was playing Nelly's 2002 hit "Hot In Herre" over and over again. This is apparently relatively standard procedure for radio stations undergoing a format change (it has since… Read More
