Examining Rapper Cameos In "Move That Dope" by Future, Directed by Benny Boom

Earlier this month, Future released a Benny Boom-directed music video for his song “Move That Dope,” featuring Pharrell Williams and Pusha T. While there is a very small narrative involving a car chase and Ronald Reagan masks, for the most part "Move That Dope" shakes out to be your classic performance hip-hop video, complete with weed, liquor, girls, jeeps, and of course, rapper cameos. Rapper cameos are a major part of hip-hop video history, and this video has some great ones, so we’ve decided to take a closer look at them.

We start by looking at the use of Pusha T and Pharrell in this video. Both of these guys feature on the track, so their appearance doesn’t come as a surprise, but it is by no means a guarantee that the featured artist will appear in the video, so it’s good to see that the fellas made it out. Both Pusha and Pharrell – who have been collaborating on music for several years now – bring something unique to the table, with Pusha doing his famous this-is-what-it-looks-like-to-cook-drugs dance moves and Pharrell wearing his famous ridiculous hat.

Next on our list for cameos is Wiz Khalifa. Wiz isn’t in the video for very long, but he makes his presence felt by smoking weed in literally all of his scene which seems like it could get really expensive depending on how many takes they needed. Why is Wiz Khalifa in this music video smoking weed? We may never know, but we are in no position to question Wiz Khalifa’s motives.

Later we find Schoolboy Q drinking/pouring out some liquor and hanging out with a sexy lady who is great at flipping her hair. Rocking a bucket hat and some fingerless gloves, Q might be the coolest dude in a video full of super cool dudes. He's so cool, in fact, that he even pops up for a second while Wiz is smoking weed, which, if you think about it, is exactly what a cool dude would do.

By far our favorite cameo in the video is Tyler, The Creator. Extremely understated and intentionally awkward, Tyler spends most of the video crammed uncomfortably in the back of a Jeep Wrangler. He’s not in any scenes by himself and he is the only person in the video with exposed kneecaps. Tyler himself even tweeted about how awkward he looked in the video, and also mentioned that there was a “funny scene” that wasn't used. Either way, he wins our award for Best Cameo in a Future Music Video, so congrats on that!

"Move That Dope" was produced by Brandon Bonfiglio for London Alley Entertainment and can be found on the upcoming album Honest.
