Video Chats: Dylan Knight on 'Warm Water' by BANKS

BANKS has followed up her dark and stormy debut video for "Fall Over" with an equally emotional music video for "Warm Water." The similarities are understandable as she has again collaborated with Dylan Knight, who we got to know after their first release. Again soft lighting command throughout. Together with haunting looks from the beautiful BANKS while protected by her mystery man (played by rapper Joon) the mood is set, and set perfectly. The aim isn’t to be flashy, nor clever, it’s beauty instead lies in its simplicity. An almost internal beauty typified by the soft cutaways of water. We got the chance to talk to Dylan about the video, about casting Joon as the male lead, and helping to create the "BANKS Style."

Luke: You and BANKS have now created a distinct style. How has your relationship with BANKS grown, was were there any differences working together this time?

Dylan: Naturally, we were more familiar with one another this time around. We also wore big aluminum hats that allowed us to read each other's mind.

Luke: Did this happen naturally? Is it more a reflection of yourself or BANKS?

Dylan: Hm... good question. BANKS and I originally connected because we related with each other's style. So, we naturally found a way to combine our aesthetic to make a distinct "BANKS Style."

Luke: This video co-stars rapper Joon, what was behind the decision to cast him in this part?

Dylan: There were a few different options for the male lead and when Joon's name was thrown into the mix he seemed like the perfect fit. He's an awesome dude. I honestly didn't have a huge part in choosing Joon as the male lead. That was something BANKS and her management headed up, because BANKS was the one who would be interacting with him. We didn't want just any basic guy to play the part, though. It had to be someone beaming with character and who is charismatic in nature - Joon was perfect.

Luke: What techniques did you use to capture the romantic energy found in the video?

Dylan: BANKS is a sensual person with a passion for what she does - she's romantic in nature. I just pointed the camera.

Luke: Were BANKS and Joon natural at interacting in an emotional manner, or was it something they grew in to?

Dylan: The two of them were comfortable right off the bat. It can be a bit hit or miss when you put two people in front of a camera and direct them to be intimate. They had great chemistry.

Luke: In "Fall Over" you slipped in some of your personal work, were you tempted to do so again?

Dylan: Haha - putting my previous work in the Fall Over video was actually a last minute decision. So I wasn't necessarily trying to fit it in again.
