New Release: Childish Gambino "Telegraph Ave ("Oakland" By Lloyd)" Directed by Hiro Murai

Director Hiro Murai's collaboration with Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) has been one of the most enjoyable and exciting director/artist pairings in recent memory. The latest music video collaboration between the two is the new video for "Telegraph Ave ("Oakland" by Lloyd)," which stars Gambino alongside singer/songwriter Jhene Anko as they sightsee around Hawaii.

Beautifully shot by Larkin Seiple, the video starts out resembling a sort of vacation documentary as Glover and Anko criuse around in a jeep, eat at restaurants, and take pictures by the ocean. It soon becomes clear that there is another element to the story, as a local man watches Gambino with a look of concern (or maybe dread). The video's bizarre and brilliant ending reveals what the man sensed all along.

In between the plot and the ending, however, is one of the best performances that Gambino has ever given in a video, including his videos that are nothing but performance. Where performances in his recent videos have been more subdued, Glover turns it up a bit here, and his energy combined with the location and plot work together flawlessly. To have all of these elements firing on all cylinders in a video like this is a rarity, and one of the reasons why we're enjoying the Murai/Gambino streak so much.

The video for "Telegraph Ave ("Oakland" by Lloyd)" was produced by Jason Baum for Doomsday Entertainment. The track is available on Childish Gambino's album Because The Internet.
